Biography of

Bruce Russell, Youth Pastor

Bruce and Krystal
Passionate, creative, enthusiastic, resilient and anointed are just a few words that can be used to describe this young man of God (also known as Bruce Hyppe). Born to Bruce (Senior) and Sandra Russell, raised in Freeport, Grand Bahama, Bruce is a proud member of the Russell family of Eight Mile Rock. Since the age of 15, Minister Bruce has been active in his local church. Today, he is still doing his part in the Kingdom of God, positively influencing the lives of young people and all who come in contact with him.
Spending most of his life in church, Bruce knew there was a call on his life. He developed a passion for ministry at a young age and as a result he joined Lion of Judah Ministries with Monty G as a Christian Rap Artist.  After completing high school in June of 2000 at Freeport Anglican High School, now Bishop Michael Eldon School, Bruce left to further his education in the United States.
In 2001, Bruce was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, an inflammatory bowel disease. This diagnoses proved to be a hard time in his life as it left him physically unable to actively maneuver as he did before. However, passion driven and ministry minded he did not allow his circumstances to stop him from doing what God had called him to do.
With the hand of God on his life, Bruce was able to fully function through his illness. In 2004, he returned home and immediately got involved in the youth ministry at Calvary Temple with his best friend Rev. Duerre Thomas. This opportunity had given birth to a passion which was the gift of preaching.
With his newly found passion, Minister Bruce later returned to the United States in 2006 where he studied Biblical and Theological Studies at South Florida Bible College. While pursing his degree, Bruce faced many challenges, physically and financially. Yet in his sickness, God proved his faithfulness. In 2008, Bruce underwent surgery that would indeed put an end to his years of pain and suffering. Today, healed and cured, he lives pain and medicine free with no trace of the Crohn’s Disease in his body.
A year after his miracle surgery, Minister Bruce graduated from South Florida Bible College with an Associate’s Degree in Biblical and Theological Studies. He is still actively involved with Lion of Judah Ministries and currently serves as the Youth and Media Director at Calvary Temple Assemblies of God. His passion for young people continues to grow as he strives to pursue the greater glory.  In April of 2010, Pastor Bruce was appointed to serve as full time Youth Pastor of Calvary Temple. He is passionate about young people and desires to see them establish a deep intimate relationship with Jesus Christ.   He is actively involved in the community through the Student Christian Movement at the high schools throughout the island.  He also serves in the same capacity with the Northern District of the College of the Bahamas.
